Job Description

Visa is seeking a proactive, business-minded lawyer to join its Legal team. The position will report to the Senior Vice President, Chief Counsel, People & Corporate Affairs.

The role includes responsibility for supporting the Corporate Services organization in a broad array of areas including real estate, as well as corporate events and communications. The attorney will work closely with other experienced lawyers and compliance professionals and regularly engage with business clients.

Applicants must be skilled at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and challenging but highly rewarding environment, have good judgment and strong analytical, client counseling, and contract drafting and negotiation skills, be self-motivated, and, most importantly, be a positive, intellectually curious, and collaborative team player.

Visa Is Looking For Someone Who Will

  • Provide legal counsel to Real Estate team with respect to the structuring, documentation and negotiation of real estate transactions, with a focus on North America

  • Draft, review, and negotiate real estate purchase agreements, leases, subleases, amendments, easements, and other real estate-related legal documents, including construction and design contracts to support Visa's new construction and remodel initiatives

  • Provide legal support for the day-to-day management of owned and leased properties

  • Support development, review and implementation of key corporate services, events, and communications policies and protocols

  • Support Events team with drafting, review, and negotiation of agreements with suppliers, vendors, and venues related to planning and executing events

  • Advise on event promotion and communication strategies to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations

  • Supervise outside counsel and oversee outside counsel work to ensure delivery of high quality, cost-effective legal services

  • Support monitoring and reporting of key legal and regulatory trends and developments to company stakeholders

  • Provide legal review and approval of presentations and other day-to-day work product and content created by the business teams

  • Manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

*5 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelors Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications

*6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelors Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD

*At least 2 years of work experience with an advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD)

*Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school

*Current member in good standing of a State Bar with the ability to become barred or a registered in-house counsel in the state where this role is located

*Strong business acumen, ability to work independently and collaboratively and to engage directly with business clients at all levels

*Practical and proactive problem solver, calm under pressure, with a positive attitude and strong work ethic

*Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills, with an ability to explain complex legal issues to stakeholders who possess varying degrees of sophistication about legal matters

*In-house and/or large law firm experience

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $176,800 to $230,000 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
