Professional Experience/ Qualifications |
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed in order to successfully work with numerous undergraduate research assistants and research participants.
- Being technologically savvy, highly organized, and able to work independently are also essential for this position.
- Some experience/familiarity with computer programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C/C++, etc.) is required.

Preferred Qualifications |
Some research experience with
EEG, brain stimulation, eye-tracking, augmented or virtual reality would be useful.
Experience with
ASL or other signed languages is preferred, but not required. |
Education |
Requires a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. A major in Psychological Science, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or related field is preferred. |

Department Statement |
The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences and the Neuroscience Program at Colgate University are seeking applications for a full-time lab manager/lab tech for its Brain Recording & Cognitive Science (
BRCS) Laboratory.
The
BRCS lab is a common space that hosts the labs of Casey Ferrara, Bruce C Hansen, Douglas N Johnson, and Spencer Kelly. Research conducted in the lab is generally focused on the following themes: 1) how strategies for communication vary within and between modalities: sign language, silent gesture, and speech + gesture, and how those strategies are acquired over time, 2) how the brain codes different visual environments, and how those codes enable intelligent behavior, 3) determinants and correlates of visual selective attention; metacognition and the relationship between metacognition, learning strategies, and learning outcomes, and 4) how bodily actions influence language production and comprehension during communication and learning.
The work conducted in the lab is supported by the following methodologies: stationary and remote high-density
EEG, high-definition tDCS, stationary eye-tracking, augmented and virtual reality eye-tracking, and psychophysics. Additionally, the
BRCS lab is host to a number of transdisciplinary projects with faculty within and outside of the department. |
Accountabilities |
Responsibilities include assisting with all aspects of running experiments that utilize: 1) stationary & remote
EEG, 2) high-definition tDCS, 3) stationary eye-tracking, 4) augmented/virtual reality eye-tracking, and 5) psychophysical techniques.
Specific duties include (but are not limited to): coordinating and executing multiple experiments, assisting with experimental set-up (including basic experiment programming), assisting the PIs and their thesis/research students with
EEG sensor preparation/application/disinfecting, stimulus creation, assisting with the training of new undergraduate RAs, assisting with classroom and community outreach demonstrations, data processing, data analysis, data management, and general lab organization and maintenance. |
