We are seeking a highly professional, motivated, and compassionate Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant to join our team. This professional will collect a variety of specimens from patients including blood and urine. This employee will perform specialized testing as applicable under the direct supervision of the certified Medical Laboratory Technician. The Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Care Center Laboratory has the privilege of serving patients in our Emergency Department, Medical Surgical Inpatient Unit, and Outpatient Phlebotomy Center, as well as multiple rural health clinics and nursing homes throughout the region. Qualifications Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA), Education: H.S. Diploma/GED (Required), Work Experience: Responsibilities Excellent clerical skills and attention to detail. Must be able to perform complex and varied tasks, sometimes in stressful situations. Independent judgment required. Strong communication skills and respect for confidentiality. Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in interpersonal skills. Ensures quality by verifying patient identification and specimen labeling. Maintains appropriate response times to stat and timed orders. Performs drug and alcohol collection procedures. Manages random drug and alcohol consortiums. Performs various Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures, to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations. Evaluates acceptability as associated with department testing. Communicates information with internal and external customers as appropriate. Recognize problems that require additional troubleshooting, performs troubleshooting or seeks additional assistance as appropriate. Successfully participates in all accreditation and other proficiency testing and annual performance competencies. Shares educational material ,knowledge and information obtained from external sources with coworkers. Performs all tasks necessary to register patients and enter lab orders into the computers. Performs a variety of routine blood drawing procedures including but not limited to venipuncture, finger sticks, and blood cultures. Able to work in a fast paced, high volume environment. Receives and processes incoming lab specimens as appropriate. Specimen types include but are not limited to blood, urine, stool, and body fluids. Assesses all specimens for appropriate labeling, specimen type and shipping conditions. Completes event reporting for specimens not meeting requirements. Performs specimen registration in the electronic medical record and order entry. Specimens are received via the laboratory computer system. Performs specimen processing and preparation as needed. Ensures proper specimen type, container, and storage temperature for tests performed by Carle, as well as those performed by a reference laboratory. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $17.91per hour - $29.01per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
