The WIC Program Assistant is responsible for providing the clerical support functions for the WIC program. Will perform a variety of clerical, typing, and word-processing tasks. Execute clerical duties to maintain program records and reports, and answer department telephones and client inquiries.


POSITION-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform client intake /registration. Services include, but are not limited to:
    • Verify personal identification, income eligibility, and residence.
    • Assign pick-up days.
    • Perform food benefit issuance, including assessing catch-up issuance needs.
    • Perform certification data entry.
    • Assure draft/check registers are thoroughly and accurately signed.
    • Schedule WIC appointments.

  • Complete appropriate client record forms.
  • Maintain the program's filing system and file documents accordingly.
  • Participate in WIC clinic team meetings to assist in quality assurance initiatives.
  • Disseminate a variety of referrals and relevant service information.
  • Answer phone lines and assist scheduled clients and visitors.
  • Mail correspondence as needed.
  • Provide administrative support to the clinic, including but not limited to word processing, maintaining records and/or data, and processing reports
  • Make copies of documents and distribute them as appropriate.
  • Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience: Experience in an office setting preferred.
  • Expertise: Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. Ability to type 35-45 wpm accurately, and knowledge of how to use basic office equipment such as a fax machine, postage machine, and copier. Ability to work well with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural staff and groups. Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have basic computer skills. Ability to respond positively to flexible and changing work schedules and environments. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work in a team environment. Able to fulfill physical demands of the job, sensory demands (seeing and hearing), and cognitive demands. (concentration, conceptualization, memorization).
