Salary Range Starting At: $18,863 Job Description: As the Community Ministries Specialist you will serve those in need in Whitley County ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out. What You Will Do:
- ADMINISTRATIVE
- Answer phone, return calls in a timely manner, schedule appointments and greet people who visit the office.
- Insure that all monies are deposited and bills are submitted for payment in a timely manner.
- Represent The Salvation Army in the community by attending meetings and community events.
- Partner with other agencies, churches and organizations to reduce duplication and work together for the common good of those in need.
- Attend the Advisory Council meetings monthly and present a report of service given and activities planned to promote The Salvation Army.
- Coordinate the Bell Ringing and Counter Kettle program at Christmas time. Recruit Bell Ringers through Register to Ring.
- Submit news releases to the media and maintain the web page, volunteer site and social media sites.
COMMUNITY MINISTRIES
- SOCIAL SERVICES
- Provide social services to those in need through assistance, case management and referral.
- Insure that case records, reports and statistical data are maintained and submitted according to Salvation Army policies and procedures.
- Be aware of client's needs and be prepared to seek intervention from protective agencies in the county if suspicion of abuse or neglect is occurring in the home.
- ASSISTANCE OUTREACH
- Welcome persons seeking assistance, insure that they are signed in on Charity Tracker and provide assistance.
- Oversee items given to clients and perform monthly reporting as required.
- Provide receipts and thanks to donors and help with developing collection of in-kind donations.
- SEASONAL ASSISTANCE
- Take applications from clients for assistance, schedule appointments, coordinate the referral and clearing house process.
- Insure that process of distribution of gifts is overseen in an orderly manner.
- Issue vouchers for clothing and shoes to students and those who are entering employment.
- SPIRITUAL BRIDGING
- Offer information on the spiritual programs to individuals who are served.
- Provide the corps officer with names and addresses of persons who show interest in programs, in need of counseling, etc.
- VOLUNTEER COORDINATION
- Recruit volunteers to help in the Community Ministries and oversee any reporting for persons with community service, etc.
- PATHWAY OF HOPE
- Identify potential clients for the Pathway of Hope program and enroll them on Service Point.
- Develop individual plans with clients, meet with them regularly and record progress.
- Insure that all reporting is submitted on a timely basis.
- PERSONAL GROWTH
Attend staff meetings and training opportunities in the community and through The Salvation Army when appropriate.
- Be familiar with other services in the counties for referral.
- Provide information and referral to individuals and families as appropriate, especially 2-1-1.
The Community Ministries Specialist will perform other duties as assigned by the Corps Administrator that fits within the purpose of the program.
- Be supportive and promote all Salvation Army programs in general.
- Ensure the confidentiality of persons receiving assistance according to Salvation Army policy.
- Appropriately represent The Salvation Army to the community, communication and on social media.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Corps Administrator.
Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position. Education: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required. Associates Degree or other education encouraged. Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed. Experience: Two years of experience in an office setting or non-profit organization preferred. Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Must complete Caseworker Certification Program within 120 days of employment. Skills/Abilities:
- Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
- Able to plan and work in a setting with clients, donors and others.

Travel: Position may include travel for training and meetings. Working Conditions: Work is performed in an environment and in the community; May require some weekend and evening work seasonally.
