DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION Perform a variety of tasks related to complex cost, financial and statistical analysis of data from various sources such as medical coding guidelines, revenue and usage reports, procurement systems, Medicare, Medicaid, managed care contracts, etc. to determine hospital patient charge amounts. Perform a variety of tasks related to maintaining the complete chargemaster in Cerner Charge Services, including analysis of the Bill Item Audit report and the hospital chargemaster. Perform a variety of tasks in the resolution of charge issues flowing from Cerner Charge Services to IDX/HPA. Perform a variety of tasks related to, but not limited to, patient charge methodology, pricing transparency, revenue optimization and billing compliance. Perform a variety of tasks to monitor and communicate changes in supply costs and consequently the chargemaster fee changes to clinical departments. Perform a variety of tasks, in conjunction with Patient Financial services related to Medicare Copay letters. Assist with patient estimates, i.e., identifying appropriate charge codes and/or master fees. Perform a variety of tasks, in conjunction with clinical departments and related computer systems, specifically Cerner Charge Services, to ensure revenue capture, reconciliation and posting to the IDX Hospital Patient Account system. May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Excellent computer skills, to include but not be limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, are required. Working knowledge of patient charge capture/entry/reconciliation, hospital claim billing, hospital operations and multiple clinical/charging computer systems is strongly preferred. Experience with GE's IDX system (BAR and/or HPA), Cerner Medical Records and Clinical systems, PeopleSoft Accounting and Purchasing systems and CMS's PCPrint Plus is strongly preferred. Strong understanding of government and third party payer reimbursement methodologies is highly desirable. Working knowledge or willingness to learn fundamentals of coding of CPT/HCPCS, ICD-10, DRG, APC coding is highly desirable. Must possess strong research (including Internet), organizational, problem solving and analytical skills as well as be able to pay attention to detail and understand organizational as well as computer system processes. Demonstrated ability to complete tasks involving a high degree of complexity which could result in a high risk of potential negative outcomes, i.e. reimbursement, compliance, etc., if not performed properly. Must have a professional presentation and an ability to work independently, set priorities and manage work accurately and timely. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in nursing, medical records, hospital administration, business, finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired. Five (5) years of experience in a healthcare field. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H) by American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC); or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); or Missouri Board of Nursing RN or LPN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi state RN or LPN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs/LPNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
