Assistant Director - Capitol Campus

Requirements

Over the last several years Georgetown has expanded its footprint into the neighborhood near the Capitol, with undergraduate and graduate students joining the vibrant Law Center community. The Capitol Campus student population includes undergraduate, graduate and law students.

The Assistant Director will be part of a new team of Student Affair professionals at the Capitol Campus and will be responsible for overseeing student support and programming designed to promote a collaborative, integrated, community, create a sense of affinity to the campus and a sense of belonging for all capitol campus students. The Assistant Director for the Capitol Campus supports the overarching vision, mission, and strategic framework of Student Affairs at the Capitol Campus. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, this position assists in creating the vision and building a shared community through developing, implementing, and assessing a broad range of programs and building environments; supporting, nurturing and encouraging student growth; and promoting health and well-being. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Oversee the management and advising of co-curricular educational opportunities for students at the Capitol Campus, including programming that connects members of the capitol campus, promotes health and wellness, and addresses community and personal responsibility.
  • Participate in the leadership of the Division of Student Affairs presence at the Capitol Campus through supervision of two full-time Program Coordinators.
  • Assist the Associate Dean in managing a fast-paced, changing environment while maintaining an educational focus, providing additional capacity in emergency situations.
  • Uphold clear standard procedures and policies, supervising and coaching subordinate staff to exercise independent thinking and judgment.
  • Routinely work nights and weekends during heavy programming and training seasons, covering weekly board meetings, and other meetings as appropriate.


Work Interactions

This position reports directly to the Associate Dean of Students for the Capitol Campus and will work with diverse colleagues in the Division of Student Affairs as well as Capitol Campus partners, including within Mission and Ministry, academic units, and student services. This position has significant interaction with students, in advisory, conduct, and mentoring capacities. This position collaborates with Capitol Campus partners, including within Mission and Ministry, academic units, and student services. This position interacts with Washington, DC partners, including those from community-based organizations, DC and federal government, and District based cultural institutions. As necessary, this position interacts with emergency personnel, alumni, parents/families, and faculty. The Student Affairs office is a fast paced, student-centered environment. Student contact is extensive and substantive. Staff members work collaboratively within the office and with many other university-wide constituent groups including the HillTop campus. Staff members are expected to exercise a high degree of responsibility and independent judgment and to work irregular and sometimes long hours.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Master's degree in higher education or a related field
  • Three to five years of relevant experience within student affairs, student formation, and/or student leadership development, and/or comparable experience
  • Knowledge of student development theory, and compliance with speech and expression, Title IX, and other pertinent higher education policies
  • Flexibility in work schedule is required (to account for night and weekend coverage)
  • Prior experience in campus-based event planning, mentoring students, and advising student organizations
  • Experience with compliance issues such as speech and expression, Title IX, and other pertinent higher education policies
  • An understanding of Jesuit higher education and knowledge of Washington, DC is a plus
  • Ability to take an educational approach to advising students through difficult, sensitive and public situations
  • Strong communication skills and a high degree of discretion with regard to sensitive matters related to student decision making and leadership behavior
  • Highly motivated, self-starter and an effective communicator within the Student Affairs team
  • Experience working with college students, familiarity with university culture, and working in and with diverse communities preferred

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
