A Day in the Life: Senior Microbiologist position at Bunge has the crucial role of ensuring food safety and aligning microbiology practices across the company's production and co-manufacturing facilities. This involves providing technical expertise, investigating contamination, validating critical control points, and developing preventative strategies against foodborne illnesses. The role also supports product development, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of Bunge's global food safety policies. What You'll Be Doing:
- Technical Expertise:Provides expert knowledge for critical control point and lethality validations across all product lines and regions.
- Sanitation and Environmental Monitoring:Establishes and oversees effective sanitation and environmental monitoring programs, including training, for both Ready-to-Eat (RTE) and non-RTE operations.
- Continuous Improvement:Collaborates with manufacturing facilities and cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement strategies for food safety and microbiological practices.
- Policy Development:Leads the development and modification of Bunge's Global Food Safety Policies and Standards.
- Serves as the expert on microbiological hazards, analysis, preventive controls, and research related to food safety plans and critical control points.
- Regulatory Liaison:Represents Bunge in interactions with regulatory bodies (FDA, CFIA, USDA, etc.) on microbiological matters.
- Recall Team Participation:Serves on the NA Corporate Recall Team and participates in cross-functional product risk assessments.
- Root Cause Analysis:Supports QFS leads in identifying root causes of food safety/microbiology issues and develops corrective actions.
- Management of Change:Works with Engineering, Operations, and R&D to ensure process changes comply with food safety standards.
- Audits and approves third-party microbiological testing laboratories.
- Customer and Agency Interaction:Communicates with customers and regulatory agencies to address their needs and concerns.
Qualifications:
- Education:Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Food Microbiology, or a related field. A Master's/Ph.D. is preferred.
- Experience:10-15 years in a food manufacturing environment, including experience with food safety systems, RTE products, Critical Control Point Validation, and Environmental Monitoring Programs. Experience in grain, oils, margarine, and milling industries is a plus.
- Skills:Strong technical expertise, proven ability to influence global teams, excellent implementation/execution skills, ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to engage and align employees from different regions.
- 20% travel
The compensation range for this position is $138,960-156,330. In addition to the regular compensation, this role is also eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
