Duties:

  • Perform clinical laboratory procedures and examinations and other tests conducted by the Microbiology, Chemistry, and Hematology Laboratories.
  • Perform procedures including Accessioning, Specimen Testing, Quality Control, and Proficiency Testing.
  • Report and document results accurately.
  • Adhere to safety protocols at all times.
  • Conduct examinations, including regular accessioning tests and procedures on blood, urine, and body fluids to assist in diagnoses and treatment (bench work).
  • Monitor, enter data, and verify patient results.
  • Review in-house and reference laboratory incomplete worklists.
  • Review abnormal/critical result queues.
  • Organize workflow to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Respond to STAT and routine requests within the expected turnaround time.
  • Follow all NYS DOH, College of American Pathologists, JC, and CMS guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by adhering to infection control, biosafety, and hazardous waste policies.
  • Enter raw data from instruments into computer systems to identify final results.
  • Record results on report forms and laboratory reports (record books, electronic forms/books).
  • Process specimens efficiently.
  • Prepare and examine slides and/or smears.
  • Ensure operation of analyzers and other instruments with calibration and quality controls; perform preventive maintenance following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshoot instrument issues.
  • Uphold the quality control program and participate in the quality assurance program.
  • Provide information to medical providers by answering questions and requests.
  • Package, label, and standardize laboratory media, reagents, and controls to ensure the laboratory has sufficient and up-to-date supplies.
  • Record results of important data on prepared products, or oversee this operation.
  • Maintain technical competency.
  • Maintain a preventative maintenance program.
  • Promote a positive work image through productivity and professional interaction with patients and other hospital personnel.


Education Requirement:

Valid license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (092) issued by NYSED, Primary Source Verification required. BLS preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

1 year Clinical Laboratory Technologist experience.


Schedule Notes:

Candidates must be available for all 3 shifts: 12a-8a, 8a-4p, 4p-12a - 35 hrs per week. Rotating weekends and holidays required.
