The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Prof. Amrit Venkatesh. The postdoc will engage in structure characterization of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) to deduce structure-property relationships in close collaboration with synthetic groups. The successful candidate will apply multinuclear NMR approaches using state-of-the-art 400 MHz magic angle spinning (MAS) dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) and 600 MHz solid-state NMR spectrometers equipped with an array of probes. The Venkatesh group has access to facilities for solution-state NMR, electron paramagnetic resonance, X-ray and microscopy techniques, and high-performance computing resources at UVA. We offer a collegial environment, support for career advancement, opportunities to lead teams and collaborations with internationally renowned labs and facilities. Required Qualifications: PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field by the start date with a strong background in NMR spectroscopy or application of NMR spectroscopy for materials characterization. Preferred skills: Experience in solid-state NMR spectroscopy, DNP-enhanced NMR, applications of NMR to catalytic materials, and ability to work in a collaborative environment. A record of peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals and conference presentations will be valued. The successful candidate will be expected to be capable of working independently and participate in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in the group. Application Procedure: Apply online at https://jobs.virginia.edu/us and search for R0073555. Attach (1) a cover letter highlighting your experience relevant to this position, (2) curriculum vitae with a complete list of publications, (3) a half-page summary of past and future research interests, and (4) contact information for three individuals who can provide professional reference letters. Application deadline: Review of applications will begin on June 25, 2025, but the position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. This is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for an additional year contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
