Position description

The MR and PET/MR Imaging Core located at China Basin is seeking applications for a Professional Researcher at the Assistant, Associate, or Full rank.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in facilitating the development, transfer, and optimization of advanced MR and PET/MR imaging techniques for translational and clinical applications. Responsibilities include collaborating with researchers to develop and implement pulse sequences and reconstruction algorithms on Siemens and GE platforms. Assisting in protocol optimization to ensure consistency and quality across imaging studies. Providing technical support and training to researchers utilizing the MR and PET/MR Core facilities. Contributing to grant proposals and publications by providing imaging expertise and data analysis. Staying abreast of the latest developments in MR and PET/MR imaging technologies to inform core facility offerings.

Required Qualifications:



  • Appointees in the Professional Research series must possess a doctorate or its equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated experience in MR imaging, including pulse sequence development and image reconstruction.
  • Proficiency with Siemens or GE MR systems, including familiarity with their respective development environments, aiming to support translational and clinical research across multiple platforms.

  • Strong programming skills relevant to imaging applications (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C++).
  • Experience in MR and PET/MR imaging and associated data analysis techniques.
  • Prior involvement in grant writing and securing research funding.
  • Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals related to imaging science.


See Table 13B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $93,400-$248,400.
