Coordinator-RCP ECMO Program

Job Summary: The Coordinator-RCP ECMO Program serves in a patient-centered care model of practice in a large tertiary academic Medical center with Level One Trauma Designation, ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Receiving Center Designation, Chest Pain Center Accreditation and Comprehensive Stroke Center Accreditation. Demonstrates comprehensive specialized body of knowledge related to the specialty practice of caring for critically ill patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions requiring Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). Collaborates with ECMO Leadership to coordinate the care to patients requiring ECMO services. Participates in the strategic planning process and partners with clinical leadership to implement and maintain policies, procedures, protocols, clinical pathways and clinical practice standards of care that are parallel with best practices for all aspects of care related to ECMO. Participates in approved Institutional Review Board research studies. Participates in on-call rotation according to department needs. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Associate's Degree from a two year American Medical Association (AMA) Respiratory Therapy Program as specified by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required. Bachelor's of Science Degree preferred. Two years of ECMO experience required. ECMO transport experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrates proficient competencies in ECMO with specialized knowledge of cardiopulmonary critical care. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus area of specialty and population served. Thorough knowledge of healthcare regulations and survey process required. Exhibits professional behavior at all times and works calmly and responds courteously when under pressure. Demonstrated leadership, supervision, management and communications skills required. Able to: speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; discern temperature variances through touch; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position.

Licensures and Certifications: Respiratory Care Practitioner License from the State of California is required. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required. ECMO certification by a recognized national or international organization required. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
