About the Job

Dr James Cotner and Dr Timothy Griffis are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a 2-year, collaborative project funded by Minnesota's LCCMR Program titled "Climate change and management effects on lake methane".

The position will be based at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior in St. Paul Minnesota. The postdoctoral researcher will play a central role in a project to determine how climate change is affecting methane production and also how methane production interacts with dissolved oxygen. An important focus is on the lability of dissolved methane and its degradation in lakes and ponds with varying stratification dynamics. This person in this position will also assist with the development of a model focused on the production of methane by methanogens and degradation by methanotrophs. The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to lead both laboratory and field sampling efforts as well as actively mentor (with support from the project team) graduate and undergraduate student researchers. A demonstrated interest in both aquatic ecology/biogeochemistry and student mentorship will be important in this role.

The post-doctoral researcher will be part of a highly collaborative research team with decades of experience in both aquatic ecology and microbial biogeochemistry. This position will provide robust training in data collection and analyses, in addition to manuscript preparation; guidance in career development; and opportunities for outreach and community engagement.
