Job Summary

The Fiscal Technician Senior - Financial Aid plays a key role in supporting students, colleges across all 10 of the Maricopa Community Colleges, and external partners by ensuring accurate financial aid processing and frontline service for student accounts.

This position is responsible for two key functions:

Financial Aid: Reviews, researches, and follows up on financial aid and student account inquiries related to Title IV fund calculations, ensuring compliance with U.S. Department of Education regulations.

Frontline Support for Student Financial Services (SFS): Serves as the first point of contact for the department, managing the SFS phone line and assisting students with issues related to past-due balances, Arizona Department of Revenue (AZDOR), and accounts placed with collection agencies.

The Fiscal Technician Senior - Financial Aid role involves strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to clear and compassionate communication to actively help students understand and navigate financial aid and account processes, as the Fiscal Technician Senior plays an important part in supporting student success.

Essential Functions

40%- Responsible for weekly calculation of Title IV Federal Return of Funds and reporting data through the Department of Education system. Researching discrepancies and completing follow-up calculations.

20%- Assess and analyze Student financial aid accounts to determine if adjustments are required to maintain compliance and federal guidelines. Completion of Post Withdrawal Disbursements and reporting data through the Department of Education system.

20% - Serves as front line to Student Financial Services Department, managing phone line and responding to general inquiries related to AZDOR, Collections, and past due balances.

10%- Aiding the collections and 1098T department with researching payment history, reporting direct payments to collection agencies, identifying defaulted in-house payment plans for collections referral, and providing customer support. Back-Office mailroom duties, including printing and mailing letters.

10%- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and two full time equivalent years of related finance or accounting support experience such as processing financial transactions.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Associate's degree or higher.
  2. Two (2) or more years of Financial Aid, such as with Return to lender calculations, post-withdrawal calculations.
  3. Two (2) or more years of finance-related experience, such as with delinquent accounts, accounts receivable aging, bad debt, and/or repayment plans.
  4. Two (2) or more years of experience providing customer service by reviewing, researching, and resolving customer or student account discrepancies, preferably related to financial aid, collections, or past-due balance inquiries.
  5. Two (2) or more years' experience working with compliance, regulations, and policies as it relate to finance, accounting, or financial aid.
  6. Two (2) or more years' experience in Excel and or Google Sheets with tracking, inputting, and maintaining data.
  7. Two (2) years' experience working in higher education settings.


Special Working Conditions

May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time, viewing a computer monitor
Work schedule: Staff are required to work a minimum of 2 days in the office, with remote work for the remaining workdays. This work schedule may be revised based on department needs.
