We have an exciting new opportunity to join Symetra as a SeniorInfrastructure Engineer I.


About the role

As the Senior Infrastructure Engineer I you will solve complex business needs by delivering quality solutions with minimal guidance and supervision. You'll contribute to design elements, leverage engineering best practices, and elevate team processes. You'll solve problems and mentor others.


What you will do

  • Champion operational excellence by engineering and implementing improvements in support processes, tools, and customer experience.
  • Develop trend analysis and root cause reporting, driving to identify and build automated solutions for common repeatable problems.
  • Support leadership in project planning, documentation, and operational readiness activities that improve IT support maturity and alignment with business goals.
  • Take full ownership of support tickets from initiation through resolution, regardless of origin, and ensure consistent ticket hygiene and timely escalations when necessary.
  • Act as a high-level escalation partner for other Support Engineers on complex issues, identifying knowledge sharing opportunities.
  • Coordinate cross-team efforts to resolve complex, multi-layered technical issues, facilitating collaboration between support, infrastructure, security, and application teams.
  • Partner to drive root cause analysis for high-impact or recurring incidents, developing and executing remediation plans that address both immediate and systemic issues.
  • Proactively review ticket portfolios, performance metrics, and system monitoring data to identify emerging trends and recommend preventive solutions.
  • Ensure documentation standards by reviewing and contributing to a robust, well-organized internal Knowledge Base that enables scalable support and faster resolution.

Compensation

Salary Range: $103,300 - $172,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus program.


Your experience and skills

  • Proven experience as an independent technical contributor, with an ability to provide technical mentorship to others.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage escalations and maintain a calm, service-first approach in high-pressure situations.
  • Two- or four-year degree or equivalent technical training.
  • 7+ years of experience in a PC network environment, with progressive responsibility in technical troubleshooting and team collaboration.
  • Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN infrastructure, VPN technologies, and networked PC environments.
  • Relevant certifications preferred: A+, Network+, MCP, MCSA, MCSE.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a commitment to addressing full problem scope and identifying organizational impacts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including documentation, executive updates, and knowledge base contributions.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, prioritizing conflicting demands, and influencing across technical functions.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
