Position Summary:

Securian Financial is seeking a seasoned Engineering Consultant to join our Life & Annuity Actuarial Support team. This is a high-impact role for a Java developer with technical leadership experience who thrives in a collaborative, agile environment. You'll work closely with product owners, junior developers, and fellow consultants to lead large-scale projects, influence architectural decisions, and help define the future state of our technology ecosystem.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Lead the design and development of Java-based solutions supporting actuarial data and vendor systems hosted on AWS.
  • Guide junior developers and contribute to team mentorship and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define strategy and roadmap for future-state architecture.
  • Analyze and optimize data flows across systems including SQL Server, Oracle, and Mainframe (PL/I, IMS).
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in system performance and development practices.
  • Take ownership of large project work and contribute to strategic initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5+ years of professional experience in application development.
  • Proven experience as a technical lead on complex projects.
  • Strong Java development skills, including Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring Batch.
  • Experience with data integration tools such as Informatica.
  • Familiarity with relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle) and mainframe technologies (PL/I, IMS).
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance to less experienced colleagues.
  • Strategic thinking and an innovative mindset around architecture and system design.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an agile environment.
  • Exposure to AWS-hosted infrastructure.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.

#LI-Hybrid **This position will have a hybrid working arrangement, working in-office for a minimum of 3 days a week.**

The estimated base pay range for this job is:

$84,000.00 - $155,000.00

Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. More information on base pay and incentive pay (if applicable) can be discussed with a with a member of the Securian Financial Talent Acquisition team.
