Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Food Service Supervisor

The Food Service Supervisor is responsible for the planning and preparation of meals for the program community through a holistic health and wellness approach. The Food Service Supervisor will assist the Service Director/Residence Manager in the overall management and operation of the kitchen and food services.

Bay City Residence is a residential health care facility licensed by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs that serves consumers with psychiatric disabilities and co-occurring medical issues who have been discharged from a State psychiatric hospital. Location: Perth Amboy, NJ 08861 (Middlesex County)

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Associates degree or High School diploma or GED with two years of experience in menu planning, preparation of meals for the program community, and training consumers in food preparation.
  • Position requires a food handler certificate within six months of employment.


Food Service Supervisor Principal Responsibilities:



  1. Prepare nutritious meals for the program community, maintain appropriate portion sizes, and utilize fresh and healthy ingredients.
  2. Assist with management and operation of the kitchen and food services.
  3. Assist in the creation of menus through a holistic health and wellness approach, including adherence to any special diet orders (in applicable programs).
  4. Maintain sanitary conditions and compliance with applicable health department rules and regulations, including their certificate for food handlers.
  5. Ensure safety is adhered to within the department and the program.
  6. Assist with managing inventory of food, supplies and equipment.
  7. Confirm that food delivery invoices are accurate.
  8. Adhere to budget guidelines. Submit department reports and documentation.
  9. Directs and train consumers in food preparation (in applicable programs). Facilitate learning through a variety of delivery methods including classroom instruction and hands-on experience.
