Department: 5th Floor Med/Surg Location: Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, 2333 Biddle Ave, Wyandotte, MI 48192 Schedule: 36 hours per week, every other weekend and holiday rotation Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM (3x12 hours shifts) Are you passionate about patient care and looking to grow in a dynamic, supportive healthcare environment? As a Nurse Assistant Apprentice, you will play a vital role in ensuring patient comfort, safety, and well-being. Working under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), you will assist with essential patient care tasks and actively contribute to a positive patient experience. ABOUT OUR UNIT: 5th Floor: The unit is a 44 bed capacity -preferred hospice unit The patient population is a combination of young adults through their lifespan. 16 beds can consists of tele patients. Our surgical patients are those that have undergone surgeries that require in- patient monitoring. We provide comfort for the End of Life patients while utilizing Palliative and Hospice Care as a resource. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Your day-to-day impact includes:
- Performing routine tasks such as measuring and recording vital signs, collecting and labeling specimens including blood draws, and performing venipuncture and chemsticks.
- Assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges as directed by the RN.
- Providing compassionate, hands-on personal care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, mobility, and comfort.
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to support seamless care delivery.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized patient environment
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Completion of the Henry Ford Health Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL)
- Must successfully pass all required testing and/or exams
- Must complete all competencies outlined in the HFHS Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program within the designated timeframe
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend verbal and written instructions
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
- Must be able to lift, carry, transfer, and move patients as needed
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
- Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Physical ability to lift and move patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Prolonged standing, walking, and lifting of patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Works in patient care area environments, which may include exposure to communicable diseases, unpleasant odors, acute patient conditions, potential exposure to infection, and hazardous gases.
