About the unit The Surgery Department at Corewell Health Greenville consists of 3 operating rooms and 2 endoscopy suites. The service lines that operate in our space include orthopedics, podiatry, general, hand, ENT, urology, Robotics, Bariatrics, obstetrics and gynecology. Examples of procedures performed include cataract, ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy, caesarean sections, tonsillectomies, and bunionectomies, robotic assisted general, GYN & bariatric surgery. Scope of work The Surgical Technologist maintains responsibility for preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions during the surgical procedures, making appropriate responses as needed. Provides sterile instruments and supplies during the surgical procedures. Creates and maintains a sterile environment. Performs surgical sponge, needle and instrument counts. Is responsible for maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and principles related to those procedures. Works with physicians to submit preference card changes when discrepancies found and suggests instrument set changes to EMI. Assists in positioning patients for surgical procedures and maintains a protective position throughout the case. The Surgical technologist also engages in case costing by opening only supplies that are necessary and waits to open supplies that are only occasionally needed. Qualifications
