Job Summary

Under the direction of the Athletic Director, the Athletic Head Coach will provide supervision, direct coaching instruction. Serve as head Women's and Men's Cross-Country coach and head women's and men's Track and Field Head Coach to develop, implement, and maintain the college's Cross Country/Track and Field program. Responsible for but not limited to: meet success; revenue generation for the athletic department; academic achievement, and public relations; including but not limited to; academic support, and academic leadership for the student-athletes, coaching, scouting, scheduling, recruiting, study hall monitoring, mentoring, travel coordination, teaching sportsmanship, life skills, discipline enforcement, and program administration.

Essential Functions

25% Coaching and Training: Develop and implement training programs, coach athletes in their specific events, and provide guidance on skills and strategies; identify, recruit, and develop quality prospective student-athletes (i.e., academics, athletic ability, character, etc.) for the cross country/track and field program, in compliance with the institution's recruitment policy; plan, manage, and implement coaching strategy and practice training sessions for student athletes in the Track & Field and Cross-Country athletic programs in accordance with established rules and regulations; provide and oversee individual and group coaching and instruction for game preparation; game preparation and game coaching.

25% Athlete Development: Coordinate, facilitate and implement athletic development training and game strategies related to the assigned area; foster the development of athletes' skills, self-confidence, and sportsmanship; plan and manage the overall development of the student athlete including academic success, character building, and team discipline; maintain responsibility for athletes' academic progress; works closely with the Student-Athlete Student Affairs Services staff to monitor academic performance; monitor and maintain the discipline, conduct, and academic progress/status of team members, implement action plans through appropriate staff when needed; develop and enforce discipline through written team rules, the department code of conduct, and university rules, policies, and standards; foster an environment that promotes the academic success, health, and welfare of student athletes in the assigned program, and work collaboratively with stakeholders as needed; support the development of students' fullest athletic potential through guidance and coaching.

25% Program Management: Oversee the entire Track & Field/Cross Country program, including scheduling, budget management, and recruitment of student-athletes; develop, implement, and maintain the college's cross country/track and field program, provide vision, leadership, and oversight; plans and administers assigned budget, monitors program expenditures and budget compliance; performs other duties as assigned. Coordinate and schedule all aspects of Cross Country and Track & Field (i.e., meets, secure officials for the events, secure a timing system company, event management, invoicing, volunteers, etc.); aide in hiring assistant coaches and support staff; and overall program operations; plan, organize, assign, supervise, review and evaluate the work of staff; communicate with athletes, staff, and the college community to promote the program and its goals; plan and implement athletic promotional programs and related fundraising efforts.

20% Safety and Compliance: Oversee and ensure students and programs comply with NJCAA, MCCCD, Region I and ACCAC regulations, policies, and procedures; ensure the safety and well-being of athletes while adhering to all NJCAA and college regulations; ensure athletes and support staff adhere to all association, conference, district, and institutional rules; comply with all rules and bylaws of the NJCAA, Collegiate Athletic Conference, and college regulations related to program conduct and administration.

5% Serve on various boards, college and district committees (including locally, regionally, and nationally) as designated and participate in meetings and conferences; responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned commensurate to the grade level of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in physical education, sports management, sports coaching, kinesiology, recreation therapy, athletic training, sport psychology, or another field related to athletics or sports, management, communications, health, coaching, or a similar discipline, and four (4) years of experience as an athletic coach, preferably at the college level, which includes recruiting experience and two (2) years of senior level or lead experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications

A) Four or more years/seasons of coaching Track & Field as a head coach or an assistant coach in an educational setting AND Four or more years/seasons of coaching Cross Country as a head coach or assistant coach in an educational setting

B) Experience in recruiting student-athletes

C) Experience and knowledge of collegiate athletic conferences and NJCAA rules, regulations, eligibility process and Title IX compliance for student-athletes

D) Experience in organizing and implementing academic retention, persistence and completion efforts of student-athletes

E) Experience in coordinating all administrative tasks and aspects of a Cross Country and a Track & Field meet (ex: coordinate location if off campus, coordinate entry fee processing, coordinate meet and event schedules, secure officials, secure a timing system company, event management, invoicing, volunteers, etc.)

F) Participated and or organized fundraising activities

G) Proven management and leadership experience
