Cost Estimator - Remote w/Deployment to Client Sites

IEM is looking to bring on a Full Time-Cost Estimator under general supervision from the Program Manager, to provide technical expertise to analyze project specifications, review historical data, and collaborate with various teams to prepare comprehensive cost estimates. The incumbent may be called upon to provide support and assistance to address issues and concerns outside areas of assignment.

Primary Location:



  • Live anywhere that meets remote work requirements in the United States, including Puerto Rico.
  • Work will take place either in the field, in an office environment, or remotely from a personal location and will depend on the needs of the project.
  • Schedule may include work on weekends or more than 40 hours per week to help communities struck by disaster.
  • Assignments could last 1-12 months with potential for extension.


Travel Requirements:



  • Once hired, you will travel (deploy) across the United States- including Puerto Rico, as needed by our clients.
  • Daily travel and other expenses are reimbursable following Federal Travel Regulations or DoD Regulations.
  • This position will require travel to complete work assignments or attend meetings.


Essential Functions:



  • Developing cost estimates from existing scopes of work (method of repair/reconstruction) for disaster-related repairs and reconstruction of buildings, infrastructure, roads, power lines, and/or other public facilities.
  • Develop and research statistical tools and estimating methodologies based on historical systems, acquisition cost schedules and technical and programmatic data.
  • Identify potential challenges or risks that may impact cost estimates.
  • Collect and analyze data to assess the time, money, materials, and labor required to construct/repair a building or facility or provide a service
  • Provides high-level technical/administrative guidance on work requirements and methods.
  • Demonstrates integrity, accountability, communication skills, and commitment to teamwork and excellence in responsibilities.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve cost analysis processes and methodologies.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Experience: Three (3) years of full-time experience in cost estimating.
  • Degree: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • License/Certification:Licensed Professional Engineer or other estimating professional, such as a licensed architect or Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) certification from the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE)
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and cost estimating software (RS Means, Xactimate or others).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Proficiency in construction estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in cost estimating for electric utility projects.


Additional Information:



  • Office Locations: These offices are often owned by the client we work with or by IEM. All candidates are expected to follow any rules and regulations of the office in which they are required to work for that project.
  • Remote Locations: All remote work environments require the ability to maintain minimum Internet speeds of 25 Mbps upload and 3 Mbps download, as well as a ping rate of 100 ms or less during working hours, regardless of the type and number of devices using your Internet connection. You must also have account privileges and access to your Internet service provider account during working hours for the purposes of maintaining the Internet connection, if needed.
