Position Summary

PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch,
located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.


The University of New Mexico Gallup Branch Facilities Management Department is
seeking a well-rounded, self-motivated individual for the position of
Facilities Services Tech. Under the direction of the Facilities Services Tech
supervisor, the Facilities Services Tech works independently and
collaboratively to service campus facilities with a wide range of non-technical
maintenance. The duties include plumbing, repairing leaking fixtures, cleaning
obstructed lines; mechanical tasks with trouble-shooting and diagnostics;
standard repairs of electrical fixtures, switches, replacement of components;
heating, ventilation and cooling equipment (HVAC) at a level not requiring a
journeyman licensure. Perform carpentry tasks such as installation/repair of
sheetrock/drywall, cabinet and countertop replacement, painting and texturing,
installation of door and hardware. The position also repairs and diagnosis
small equipment and appliances, operates motorized equipment, snow plow, power
tools and hand tools, including general upkeep of all tools. Work is performed
using work orders and maintaining records on inventory tracking system. This
position may assist with the campus fleet vehicles as assigned, including
routine maintenance, light repair, cleaning, issuance and return process for
fleet use.

A standard work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8am
to 5pm, however, the position requires a rotation on-call schedule with other
techs and may require overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. The position
requires physical activity and exposure to indoor and outdoor elements
including hazardous material.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) or more verifiable years of directly related experience as listed in the position summary.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair of heating and cooling equipment such as pumps, boilers, air handlers, evaporative coolers, fans, etc.
  • Demonstrated Knowledge of electricity, HVAC or plumbing trades.
  • Experience/familiarity with FMS Digital controls application and operation.
  • Experience with computerized work order and inventory tracking systems.
  • Active NM Construction Industry Journeyman licensure
    in any of the maintenance trades such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical,
    pipefitter, sheet metal, etc.
