Could you be the full-time onsite Communications Technician in Sanford, FL, US we're looking for?

The Communications & Signal Technician performs monthly, quarterly and annual inspections, as well as periodic maintenance and/or repair of VHF radios, ATCS (advanced train control systems), devices and on platform appliances. Assists in maintaining, updating installing PC's and all related equipment

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:

*Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)

*Install, maintain, replace, and check communication equipment including cables, computers, printers, monitors, radios, telephones, modems, wireless components, security cameras, variable message signs, public address system, batteries, connectors, various parts and testing equipment.

*Cut, splice, and pull cable on ground and on pole

*Receive and record inventory delivery

*Retrieve parts from inventory to install and maintain equipment

*Transport tools and equipment to jobsite by truck

*Install wiring in offices and field locations

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Must possess a minimum of three (3) years of communications work experience, which must include board level radio communications radio frequency (RF) repair, inside/outside plant telecommunications equipment/systems, or computer/computer networking.
  • Federal Communications Commission License or Associates Degree in electronics or equivalent Military experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • FCC/NABER License
  • Network Management
  • CDL License


Basic Competencies:



  • Must be able to read and understand diagrams, parts lists, mechanical/electrical drawings, and equipment layouts in regards to Communications and Signals utilized in the railroad industry.
  • Must be familiar with the use of hand tools, volt-ohm meters, communication analyzers, oscilloscopes, small power tools, and mechanical, as well as, electrical tools utilized in the railroad communications and signal equipment..
  • Must possess a valid driver's license to operate cars and regular work trucks.
  • Must be computer and office machine literate, possess a working knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and be able to operate fax machines and printers.
  • Must possess documented experience and/or training in electronic or electrical installation sufficient to perform the job in accordance to standards.
  • Must demonstrate a Sense of urgency and follow-through.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task effectively and work independently


Physical Requirements:

Job requires standing for more than half of each work day with periodic breaks; lift/carry and push/pull equipment and other objects weighing 25 lbs. (frequently), 50 lbs. (occasionally), and 75 lbs. (infrequently); occasional climbing on ladders; bending, stooping, and kneeling; good eye-hand coordination; and bilateral dexterity.

Environmental Conditions:

Work outside in all weather conditions, and on occasion in confined spaces or at elevated heights.
