As part of our continued investment in discovery research, we are currently seeking an outstanding Application Specialist with strong development and programming skills and proven experience working with complex biological or chemical data in a drug discovery environment.

Using a broad range of scientific computing and programming methodologies, this individual will support and enhance initiatives related to chemical/biological data management, mining, and visualization-helping drive innovation and discovery across Incyte's research community.

The ideal candidate will serve as a scientific and technical expert within the drug discovery organization, with responsibilities that include evaluating emerging data technologies, integrating scalable solutions into research workflows, and partnering closely with scientists to ensure computational tools meet evolving scientific needs.

We are looking for a motivated individual with strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and the technical depth to analyze, understand, and build upon existing software systems and code infrastructure. Experience in database development (including PL/SQL), as well as working in interdisciplinary research environments, is essential.

Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities)

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance software tools for data management, mining, and visualization in support of drug discovery
  • Collaborate with scientists and cross-functional teams to deliver computational solutions that address real-world R&D challenges
  • Integrate new data technologies into existing systems and pipelines
  • Analyze and contribute to the evolution of existing code bases, ensuring performance, usability, and scalability
  • Administer and support both Linux and Windows-based computing environments used in research
  • Provide technical guidance on scientific computing approaches and infrastructure best practices

Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in computer science, bioinformatics, cheminformatics, or a related field
  • Proven experience developing software tools in a scientific or research-driven environment
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, Java, or similar)
  • Experience administering Linux and Windows
  • Expertise in scientific computing, data modeling, and visualization
  • Strong database skills, including experience with PL/SQL and relational databases
  • Ability to analyze, understand, and build upon existing software systems and code infrastructure
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to team-based research
