Job Summary

Under the direction of the Simulation Technician II of the DUCOM simulation center in Philadelphia this position provides real-time feedback and direction to learners taking place in medical simulations. Standardized Patient Technicians help set up the simulation environment, preparing manikins and other props; interact with students while portraying patients with described medical conditions; and monitor and direct the progress of simulations in real-time through use of dedicated computer apps.

Essential Functions



  • Serve as simulator operator by running scenarios with faculty instructors, assuring that the facility and equipment are set up for teaching sessions
  • Understand the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators and virtual reality surgical simulators
  • Use simulation center software system and digital audiovisual hardware and software systems to configure simulation scenarios and sessions
  • Participate in technical training as necessary
  • Train other standardized patient technicians in the operational aspects of simulation
  • Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty instructors, students, and other users of the Simulation Center
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor


Required Qualifications



  • Minimum of a HS Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years experience


Preferred Qualifications



  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills (computer hardware equipment and software applications) relevant to simulator functions.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word & Outlook.
  • Ability to memorize and retain aspects of the clinical case.
  • Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently.
  • Ability to retain knowledge of simulator set-up.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities and make critical decisions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues.
  • Ability to read small print.
  • Ability to complete a BCLS course.
  • Ability to work with internal and external individuals from different disciplines and different levels of training.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and require minimal supervision with the ability to work as a team member.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic environment; able to work evening/weekends.
  • Work requires occasional heavy physical lifting of equipment and management/utilization of advanced medical devices.
  • Able to work flexible hours on a per diem basis.

Additional Information

This is a Part-Time per diem position classified as Non-Exempt. The offered pay is based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
