STGi is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing-RN to provide services at The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home



The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home is located in Temple, TX. Our staff provides compassionate and specialized care to our nation's veterans. We focus on providing the best experience for residents and their families.



JOB SUMMARY: To plan, organize, develop, coordinate, and direct the Quality Assessment and Assurance Program in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care and safety can be maintained at all times.




ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Assist in planning, organization and direction of Quality Assurance programs and related activities.



  • Assist department heads and staff in the evaluation of programs and effect changes as necessary to improve programs and assure compliance with regulatory requirements.



  • Communicate revised plans and changes to facility management to maintain awareness.



  • Coordinate concurrent review studies performed within the quality assurance program, prepare resulting reports as required.



  • Establish and maintain tracking systems for recommendations of groups involved in quality assurance.



  • Develop and implement appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.


  • Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc. and submitting to Administrator as required.


  • Represent the facility at and participate in meetings as directed.


  • Maintain an adequate liaison with families and residents.


  • Schedule committee meetings and notify members of such meetings.


  • In the absence of the Direct of Nursing and the Assistant Director of Nursing may be considered to act as interim Director of Nursing.


  • Assist in developing follow-up procedures for monitoring identified problem areas.


  • Maintain a reference library of written quality assessment and assurance material, laws, etc. necessary for complying with current standards and regulations.


  • Assist in developing yearly evaluation schedules for departmental studies.


  • Serve as chairperson of the Quality Assessment & Assurance Committee.


  • Serve as liaison among committees and/or department to focus on quality assurance in the ongoing operation of the facility.


  • Develop and participate in programs designed for in-service education, on-the-job training and orientation classes.


  • Prepare and plan the quality assessment and assurance department's budget and submit to the Administrator.


  • Keep abreast of economic conditions/situations and recommend adjustments that ensure the continued ability to provide quality care.


  • Ensure all quality assessment and assurance personnel are knowledgeable of resident rights and responsibilities, including the right of refusal.


  • Performs other related assignments as required.

Required Skills

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:


  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state.


  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.


  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.


  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.


  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-te1m care and quality assessment and quality assurance procedures.


  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.


  • Must be willing to travel as job requires.


  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc., that are necessary for preventing and controlling infections, to include the establishing of universal precautions.


  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents and staff.


  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.


  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.

Required Experience

REQUIRED EDUCATION:



  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state.


  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required prior to performing work, preferably from American Heart Association (AHA), or have the ability to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands and work environment described herein is a representative of those that generally must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:


  • This position primarily involves standing, walking, twisting, reaching, bending/stooping, pushing and pulling (typical weight of 5 lbs. and maximum weight of 30 lbs., approximately), and lifting (minimum weight of 5 lbs. and maximum weight of 100 lbs., approximately).


  • The position requires repetitive finger movements as well as hearing and talking on the phone and in person.


  • Must be able to continuously deal effectively with stress created by residents, multiple tasks, noises, interruptions, and work cooperatively as part of the health care team while maintaining a pleasant attitude.
