The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Athletics Equipment Room Intern.This is a full-time (at-will and FLSA-non-exempt) position. Fringe benefits are not included. Salary is set at $16.00 an hour. The University of Iowa is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Department of Athletics manages 22 varsity sports programs and related events with a workforce of approximately 250 regular employees and 300 temporary employees. Responsibilities: The Equipment Room Intern is responsible for assisting in the ordering of all equipment for multiple Olympic sports and men's and women's basketball, assist in locker room set up when needed for home games, ensure gameday and practice laundry is done in a timely manner and maintain laundry equipment, maintain the upkeep of sports equipment, oversee the receiving process of incoming equipment and apparel assist in the supervision and schedule of student worked, and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;


  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;


  • Working knowledge of and ability to:

    • Effectively use office support software, (word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets)
    • Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week which may include evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • A valid driving license and the ability to meet and maintain University of Iowa Driving Policy standards (https://opsmanual.uiowa.edu/administrative-financial-and-facilities-policies/risk-management-insurance-and-loss-prevention-5).


Desired Qualifications:



  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program.
  • Work experience in:

    • The maintenance and inventory of apparel and equipment as a member of a college or professional equipment staff;
    • Doing daily laundry as a member of a college or professional equipment staff;
    • A collegiate business environment;
    • Supervising or leading student employees
