Associate Scientist - Biomaterials (Full-time, Temporary)

Description

BlueHalo, an AV Company is developing new biomaterials for infrastructure applications, with a focus on biocement created via microbially-induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP). AV is in immediate need of an Associate Scientist to join our multidisciplinary team and contribute to cutting-edge research and product development. In this role, you will design, execute, and analyze experiments that advance our core technologies and contribute to the development of novel solutions.

This role is a temporary, full-time (40 hours/week) position starting immediately and is expected to last through December 2025. A successful applicant will have experience with structural biomaterials and be equipped to support research on MICP-based biotechnologies from day one. Applicants should provide a resume and a cover letter that describes their interest, experience, and availability.

WHAT YOU WILL DO



  • Prototype and refine biomaterial production techniques and formulations.
  • Conduct characterization of biomaterial specimens through extensive mechanical and chemical/biochemical testing.
  • Devise experimental plans based on accumulating results, scientific literature, or first principles.
  • Use a variety of techniques to perform experiments and address research questions.
  • Follow written protocols for the formation and testing of biomaterials.
  • Document standard operating procedures, test protocols, and experimental results.
  • Communicate results clearly and thoroughly in regular formal and informal presentations.


WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL BRING



  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant discipline (e.g. chemistry, biochemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or related field).
  • Direct, hands-on research experience with MICP-based biotechnologies.
  • Experience with biomaterial characterization tools and techniques (e.g. mechanical load testing, chemical analysis).
  • Experience operating high-throughput analyzers for biological and chemical testing (experience with Cedex Bio HT Analyzers strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow directions.
  • This position is working within a government facility and requires US citizenship.
