Job Description
The purpose of this position is to partner in the processing of payrolls for a variety of employee types using the college's ERP/Payroll system ensuring employees are paid timely and accurately.

This includes but is not limited to

  • Receipt and review of supporting documentation, spreadsheets, and work-time-entry
  • Audit, research and resolve data inconsistencies, issues & timekeeping records
  • Balance payroll wages, hours and leave
  • Collaborate with other departments to print and process payroll checks
  • Complete payrolls with encumbrance and general ledger postings
  • Scan, file, and maintain payroll documents
  • Maintain spreadsheet of all payroll & benefit changes
  • Ensure quarterly reporting of timekeeping compliance
  • Enter and maintain wide range of data
  • Manage Leave of Absence entries on timesheets
  • Set-up and input all benefits deductions in ERP
  • Facilitate campus-wide communications
  • Prepare and submit bi-weekly federal and state tax filings, retirement contributions, and transmit electronic files
  • Prepare reconciliations, journal entries, and payroll checks
  • Handle direct deposit reversals
  • Perform testing for system updates
  • Reconcile and prepare tax data
  • Participate in fiscal and annual year end processes
  • Serve as back-up to Payroll Specialist on certain processes and training


Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
High school diploma or GED
Required Experience
Three years of experience in payroll, including basic knowledge of methods, techniques, principles, and procedures associated with payroll processing and compliance
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proficiency in a Windows-based computer environment, including intermediate Excel skills
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to plan and implement tasks from inception to completion
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong sense of urgency and time management


Preferred Qualifications

  • Banner experience
  • General accounting experience


Hours per Week 40 - 100%
General Weekly Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, business hours. Occasional overtime may be required.
