Aide Trainee

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is currently seeking ambitious and compassionate people to provide care and support to live an active and healthy life to the residents at the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home. As an Aide Trainee, you will complete on-site and off-site training to become a Nurse Aide. You will attend formal classroom training sessions and receive on-the-job training assignments to develop the knowledge and skills to provide non-professional nursing care. In this position, you will receive clinical site training in hands-on non-professional direct care methods, techniques, and procedures. You will also make rounds with the nursing staff at the beginning and end of each shift. You can expect to answer call bells and assist with basic tasks, transport and distribute meal trays, and change and distribute linens. Additionally, you will assist residents during scheduled activities and programs as directed.

This position is a starting step to a Nurse Aide position. Upon completion of an 8-hour training course and successfully passing the competency exam, the 16-hour classroom course, and an 80-hour orientation program, you would promote into a Nurse Aide position.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 2:45 PM to 11:15 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. You will be required to work every other weekend.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Requirements:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• Willing and able to work in Erie, PA
• Willing and able to work a full-time, 2nd-shift position (after certification is obtained on 8-4:30 shift classroom orientation)
• Willing and able to work rotating days and weekends
• Willing and able to complete 8-hour online training course prior to hire
• Previous experience in the care of geriatric or physically ill individuals
• Possession of high school diploma or equivalent

Legal Requirements:

• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
• This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
  • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
