Job Description:

Microchip Frequency and Time Systems (FTS) is a world leader in precision time and frequency equipment. Its clocks comprise the majority of those used to set the world's standard for time. The company generates, distributes, and applies precise time for the communications, aerospace/defense, IT infrastructure, science, and metrology industries. Microchip FTS's customers range from telecom service providers and network equipment manufacturers to governments agencies, and their suppliers worldwide are able to build more reliable networks and other systems by using the company's advanced timing technologies, atomic clocks, services and solutions.

Microchip FTS is considering candidates for a Designer II - PCB Layout position to assist in the design, procurement, and documentation of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electronic printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) for prototype and pre-production commercial, military, and space products in our Clocks Engineering Group in Beverly, MA with a focus on quartz and atomic frequency oscillators/references and associated technologies.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Job Requirements:

  • Collaborate with the engineering staff and work closely with the senior designers to develop printed circuit boards, using CAD (Computer Aided Design) and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) tools to develop high precision products for commercial, military and space applications.
  • Translate electronic schematics into PCB layouts based on design requirements.
  • Optimize PCB designs for signal integrity, power distribution, thermal considerations, and impedance requirements.
  • Generate and review fabrication and assembly documentation.
  • Conduct design rule checks and work with manufacturing partners to ensure design quality and feasibility.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide/accept technical inputs for improvements.
  • Assist with procurement of prototyping/pre-production materials.
  • Have a willingness to continuously learn in a mentally challenging environment.
  • Work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Show careful attention to detail while contending with multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a US Person.
  • Associate degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics related fields (or equivalent certifications).
  • Coursework that covers college level mathematics and introductory courses in science/engineering principles.
  • Good written and verbal skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Must be willing to travel on occasion, for up to 1 week at a time (including international travel if necessary).
  • Must be willing to work evenings or weekends on occasion, if requested (prior notification will be given and flexible accommodations will be made).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework specifically in CAD for mechanical and PCB design.
  • Coursework specifically in electrical circuits principles.
  • 2+ years of experience in PCB layout design.
  • Knowledge of the following specific CAD tools:
    Mentor Graphics PADS/Expedition, Altium Designer, SolidWorks/CircuitWorks.
