Microchip is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) professional to become a member of the EH&S Team at our Chandler Operation in Arizona. The preferred candidate will have a technical background/education in engineering and possibly environmental, health and safety regulations. The candidate will be directly involved in maintaining regulatory compliance for many of the EH&S programs including OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, Air Permit, Wastewater Permit, Stormwater, Trip Reduction Plan, SPCC Plan, RCRA, and Recycling programs. The ideal candidate would have a firm grasp of engineering principles and have excellent communication skills. Expertise in using MS Office applications is required. The essential functions of this position include assisting EH&S personnel with day-to-day tasks, collecting and analyzing data, interacting with other departments to gather data, presenting findings, and helping to share the workload and streamline administrative processes

Job Requirements:

  • Understand and interpret Federal and State regulatory requirements to include but not limited to Arizona State, City of Chandler, and Maricopa County
  • Conduct compliance evaluations and calculations for numerous Environmental Programs
  • Conduct Safety audits, track issues to closure, implement best practices for numerous Safety Programs
  • Organize, plan and manage multidisciplinary projects while meeting regulatory deadlines, department objectives, and customer commitments in a timely manner.
  • Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions in controlled situations, read and understand engineering plans and specifications.
  • Apply practical chemistry knowledge including ability to evaluate alternatives with engineering and suppliers and interpret SDS.
  • Communicate, plan, develop, and implement cost-effective technical solutions to resolve potentially complex problems in conjunction with Facilities, Manufacturing, and Engineering organizations in a fast-paced working environment to reduce risk and protect company assets.
  • Be a member of the Emergency Response Team and Medical Emergency Response Team, where the possibility of being on-call after hours may emerge.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree. Preference is for a science background including environmental science, chemical engineering, or chemistry.
  • 0-3 years of experience in environmental science, chemical engineering, or chemistry.
  • Must be able to work independently (self-directed) and as a team member.
  • Have proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Office, environmental management systems and environmental testing or analytical equipment.
  • Able to lift, push, pull, carry 25 lbs; sit 30%; stand 30%; walk 40%.
  • Must be able to pass a Physical and Respirator Fit Test annually
