Pay Range: Actual pay may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role * Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Research, develop, and productize state-of-the-art AI models and algorithms using techniques such as GANs, VAEs, CNNs, diffusion models, multi-modal and transformer-based architectures, and other emerging technologies.
- Work with diverse data types including video, images, speech, and text to collect, label, and prepare data; create training/test sets and preprocessing pipelines; and build datasets, models, and ML pipelines for applications like text-to-video, text-to-speech, captioning, action recognition, object detection, segmentation, feature extraction, and translation.
- Provide linguistic expertise in ASL, focusing on areas such as phonetics, phonology, syntax, and semantics, to support the development of language technologies.
- Annotate and review linguistic data, including part-of-speech annotation, semantic annotation, and additional transcription.
- Evaluate current system outputs, detect incidental and systemic errors, and provide solutions to improve performance.
- Perform translation and localization tasks in ASL.
- Use LLMs to build English-to-ASL translation models, and engage in prompt engineering.
- Design, implement, and evaluate novel algorithms and large-scale deep learning models to address complex problems in your area of assignment, optimizing for performance, scalability, and user experience across diverse domains.
- Collaborate with software engineers to deploy scalable, real-time AI systems in the cloud, optimizing for efficiency, latency, and memory usage.
- Write software to integrate AI code into a real-time systems.
- Maintain a deep understanding of current research, technologies, and emerging trends in generative AI to inform and guide the development of cutting-edge solutions.
- Collaborate with Deaf users and external partners to develop high value solutions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Travel Requirements Travel Requirements: Less than 25% Education Minimum of a 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field. Preferred Graduate Degree in PhD in a related field. Experience Minimum of 3 Years of experience in an AI field (e.g. deep learning, machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, or automated speech recognition). A Master's degree may be considered equivalent to 2-4 YOE. A PhD may be considered equivalent to 1-3 YOE. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Deep knowledge of ASL linguistics (semantics, syntax, morphology, phonology, prosody) with familiarity in pragmatics and conversation/discourse analysis.
- Experience in annotation work, with a strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.
- Experience in using, adapting, and creating scripts in Python for data processing and analysis.
- Knowledge of semantics, pragmatics, conversation analysis, and/or discourse analysis in signed languages.
- Fluency in ASL.
- Fluency in additional signed languages is a plus.
- Strong foundation in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision and generative AI techniques, in areas such as GANs, latent diffusion models, VAEs, cross-attention, segmentation, ControlNet, and transformer-based architectures.
- Exposure to large language models, multi-modal learning, and supervised and unsupervised learning.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python and C++, experience with data preprocessing and analysis tools such as NumPy and pandas, and familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Hugging Face Transformers, and Open AI API protocol.
- Familiarity with computer vision libraries and tools including autoencoders, OpenCV, scikit-image, ffmpeg, and CUDA.
- Familiarity with video, image, audio, and text processing techniques as well as natural language processing concepts and methods.
- Experience with model optimization techniques for efficient inference in real-world applications.
- Familiarity with cloud computing services like AWS for training and deploying models at scale.
- Proven track record solving complex problems with innovative solutions, demonstrating the ability to develop novel algorithms and adapt existing methods to new challenges in AI/NLP and ASL language technologies.
- Excellent ASL or English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a diverse team of AI experts.
- Strong desire for continuous learning and staying at the forefront of generative AI research and development.
