POSITION SPECIFICS

Design and Engineering Services (DES)provides architectural and engineering design services for construction projects as well as civil engineering support across all Penn State campuses. Design projects primarily involve renovations to Penn State's buildings, facilities, and infrastructure. Project sizes and scopes vary from small office renovations to whole building renovations, as well as major infrastructure and plant upgrades.

This position leads or supports civil engineering studies, designs, and general consultation as directed by the DES Civil Engineering group supervisor from planning through design, construction, and closeout. Technical areas include:

  • Earth grading

  • Stormwater management

  • Roadways

  • Land development processes through local and state municipalities

  • Sidewalks, paths, pedestrian accommodations

  • Site design

  • Erosion and sediment control

  • Permitting associated with earth disturbances and land development activities

  • Local and state ordinance familiarity and compliance

  • Utilities

  • Parking

  • Traffic

The position's duties are split between civil engineering design and general civil engineering support. The percentage of time spent between these two main activities may vary depending on organizational needs, but is heavily weighted towards design.

Duties include:

  • Preparing and reviewing technical and price proposals for delivery to project leaders

  • Reviewing proposed designs prepared by others

  • Providing input to technical designs and decisions, and general approaches to projects, assignments, and issues

  • Managing the design, performing or leading designs, and creating drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D

Preferred Requirements:

  • Familiarity with projects involving the design of most of the listed elements is required

  • A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline is preferred

  • Candidate must be able to work exceptionally well within a team, take direction, as well as lead projects

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Design Engineer - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience Required Certifications: Licensed Professional Engineer - Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists If filled as Design Engineer - Senior Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 6+ years of relevant experience Required Certifications: Licensed Professional Engineer - Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $76,700.00 - $129,500.00.
