About the role

As an Accounting Associate - Withholding Tax, you will support the Symetra Tax team by performing key accounting tasks focused on withholding tax and information reporting compliance for our individual life, retirement, and group life & disability products. This role will also contribute to projects across the finance department.

What you will do

• Prepare ad-hoc journal entries and provide other basic accounting related support to ensure withholding compliance for Symetra's Individual Life, Retirement, and Workforce Benefits products
• Prepare monthly state withholding reconciliations and accounting journal entries as needed to support state withholding return filings and financial reporting compliance.
• Prepare monthly variance reports comparing withholding tax balances between ledger and information reporting software (Thomson Reuters Onesource)
• Assist with special projects and research to support department initiatives
• Maintain process and procedure documentation to support maintenance of department function.

Compensation

Salary Range: $26.30 - $43.87/hourly plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Who You Are:

• High School Diploma is required. Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 1+ years' work related experience required.
• Familiar with key tax forms such as Forms 945, 941, 1099, 1042-S, W-2, W-8, and W-9, with a focus on withholding tax compliance preferred
• Able to think critically, solve problems creatively, and contribute to process improvements
• Have a foundational understanding of GAAP accounting principles
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail
• An effective communicator with excellent written and verbal skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
