Leidos is looking for an Aviation Technical Writer - SRM in Des Moines, WA.

The NISC contract has an opening for an Aviation Technical Writer. This position will support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Western Service Center (WSC) in Des Moines, WA. The contractor will provide support to the Western Service Center Quality Control Group with promotion, implementation, education, facilitation, quality assurance, and general oversight of the Safety Risk Management (SRM) Program for changes affecting the National Airspace System (NAS).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, review, edit, and deliver a draft Safety Risk Management Document with Hazards (SRMDH) or Safety Risk Management Document with No Hazards (SRMDNH) to the SRM Panel.

  • Develop draft templates and work processes to be utilized for improvement of SRM practices.

  • Communicate with panel members and subject matter experts (SME) to ensure the message and intent remains true throughout the review and editing process of SRMDs.

  • Provide subject matter expertise to assist programs and analysis teams in conducting SRM support activities.

Please Note: Must be able to work onsite in Des Moines, WA. Potential for up to 25% telework with Manager AND Customer Approval - 25% telework can be reduced at anytime by customer.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree and 8+ relevant experience OR Masters with 6+ years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of relevant experience may be considered/accepted in lieu of degree.

  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance Suitability (To be eligible for Public Trust Security Clearance, one must be either a U.S. Citizen OR a U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card holder OR working in the USA with a temporary protected status (TPS) visa who has resided in the U.S.A for the past 3 years of the past 5 years consecutively with No breaks OR leaving the country. One must be able to show documentation of proof once asked by security or the FAA.

  • Experience in writing, editing, proofreading and/or technical writing.

  • Knowledge of SRM principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with the FAA and it's systems.

  • An in-depth understanding of SRM processes

  • Ability to learn processes quickly and apply them as needed.

  • Ability to work with FAA experts and general public in a collaborative way.

  • Experienced with MS Office suite of products.

Please Note: The program budget salary for this role could fall anywhere between $105,000 to $124,000 with a slight wiggle room to go up (but no guarantees) based on relevant experience and assessment. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
