Ardelyx has two commercial products approved in the United States, IBSRELA (tenapanor) and XPHOZAH (tenapanor). Ardelyx has agreements for the development and commercialization of tenapanor outside of the U.S. Kyowa Kirin commercializes PHOZEVEL (tenapanor) for hyperphosphatemia in Japan. A New Drug Application for tenapanor for hyperphosphatemia has been approved in China with Fosun Pharma. Knight Therapeutics commercializes IBSRELA in Canada.
Position Summary:
This key leadership role will be responsible for the financial stewardship of accounts, focusing on Gross-to-Net (GTN) management strategies and ensuring that account activities align with financial targets and profitability goals. Additionally, it requires building strong, credible relationships across designated key accounts, including Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), and both commercial and government payers.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategic account management plans for national accounts, focusing on the short- and long-term business objectives for each product
- Optimize appropriate payer coverage, coding, and patient access for the Ardelyx portfolio
- Advocate for favorable access at the national and regional level
- Eliminate or reduce barriers to patient access and reimbursement, including managing drug and procedural code coverage
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers within payer organizations, including Managed Care, PBMs, and other healthcare stakeholders
- Monitor and analyze national and regional healthcare policy trends, reimbursement changes, and payer decision-making processes to inform strategic planning
- Forecast, track, and report on key performance metrics, including sales, margins, and trade terms, to ensure alignment with business objectives
- Work closely with the FAM team to share account/coverage updates and appropriately troubleshoot patient access issues
- Collaborate with field sales leadership and payer marketing to coordinate pull through activities for aligned payer accounts
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, MBA preferred, with 12 to 15 years of experience in market access, payer strategy, or related roles within the healthcare industry
- Strong business aptitude / acumen and demonstrated success facilitating timely access for therapies through the ability to drive productive contract negotiations
- Demonstrated success leading a national account and established relationships with Trade Directors, Pharmacy Directors, Medical Directors, and other key personnel
- In-depths understanding of payer/PBM economics and strategic interests
- Comprehensive understanding of payer decision-making bodies and cycles, processes, and procedures (including contracting), and data and reporting
- Ability to create and present a concise business case that leverages strategic and analytic thinking
- Documented success with fiscal management and GTN strategies within managed care settings
- Payer experience across multiple therapeutic areas including general medicine and specialty
- Exceptional communication and people skills, with a proven ability to negotiate successful outcomes
- High ethical standards and commitment to compliance: Understanding of and adherence to relevant industry regulations
- Sales management experience preferred
- Experience directly negotiating, executing, and managing contracts with payers, PBMs, and GPOs preferred
- Direct account management experience and proven relationships with assigned payer accounts preferred
Travel:
- Position requiring over 50% travel
The anticipated annualized base pay range for this full-time position is $250,000-$307,000. Ardelyx utilizes industry data to ensure that our compensation is competitive and aligned with our industry peers. Actual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target and equity awards, subject to eligibility and other requirements.
