JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State Outreach is seeking applicants for part-time job of Sustainability Experience Center Coordinator. More information about the Sustainability Experience Center (SEC) - a nine-acre property near Medlar Field on the University Park campus - can be found at this link.

Job duties to include:

  • Maintain calendar for Sustainability Experience Center and MorningStar House, input use into 25Live, log tour group size and information in tour database
  • Maintain calendar for GEM Car
  • Check MorningStar House and walk SEC property for issues, ensure GEM Car is charging/charged, ensure facilities are ready for any scheduled events/meetings
  • Manage tour and reservation form
  • Respond to inquiries for tours and/or use of MorningStar house and classroom, provide pre-tour information, send post-tour survey
  • Oversee maintenance of educational/research gardens
  • Provide tours of the SEC
  • Meet groups holding events at MorningStar House at the beginning and end of the event to ensure that group has what they need
  • Coordinate service projects at SEC (trash pickup from tailing gating, educational/research garden projects, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements, qualifications, and/or competencies:

  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook to manage group calendars
  • Experience using Microsoft Forms and Excel
  • Self-sufficient and able to accomplish tasks with minimal guidance
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate tour requests
  • Passion for sustainability
  • Comfortable with public speaking and leading tours for a wide range of audiences
  • Knowledge of native plants and/or experience with garden/greenhouse management is desirable

Schedule:

  • Approximately 10 hours per week with flexibility on days of the week and times of day.
  • Occasional weekend tour or event.

Compensation:

The starting rate for this job is $25/hour.
