Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting both general accounting and inventory accounting activities. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with company policies, and smooth monthly close processes. The Senior Accountant will collaborate cross-functionally with finance, supply chain, and operations, while also contributing to process improvements. In addition, this position will create and maintain detailed inventory roll forward and lot cost files.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage inventory accounting by maintaining and reconciling inventory accounts (WIP and finished goods), lot cost files, and monthly roll forwards to ensure accurate valuation.

  • Analyze and report on variances by preparing inventory variance analyses and reserve calculations, including obsolescence, expiry, and excess or shortage.

  • Partner with operations and supply chain to validate inventory movements, support physical and cycle counts, and ensure accuracy across systems.

  • Oversee the cost accounting processes by maintaining product cost, analyzing variances, and updating related reporting.

  • Support the month-end close through preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet schedules across multiple GL areas such as cash, prepaid, and fixed assets.

  • Contribute to compliance by supporting internal, external, and SOX audits with documentation and analysis, and by preparing required U.S. Census Bureau and survey reporting.

  • Drive process improvements by enhancing utilization of ERP functionality, streamlining reconciliations, and leveraging current company software and automation to increase efficiency.

  • Support financial reporting by assisting with financial statements and cross-functional reporting needs.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or progress toward CPA a plus).

  • 4+ years of accounting experience, including exposure to inventory or cost accounting.

  • Experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industry a plus.

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take initiative.

  • Familiarity with inventory management and costing in an outsourced contract manufacturing environment.

  • Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis) and experience with NetSuite financials is strongly preferred.

  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and adapt to shifting responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

  • Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written).

  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.

  • Ability to perform face-to-face work with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego (no role is expected to be 100% remote).

Target Base Pay Range:

$90,000.00 - $115,000.00
