The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

This position provides technical and research expertise and support to a multi-site National Institutes of Health (NIH) Autism Center of Excellence research program that is studying aging in autistic adults across the adult lifespan. The Researcher is responsible for performing standardized neuropsychological assessments and collecting various types of data (e.g., interview, questionnaire, direct assessment, clinical, brain MRI and metabolic data, etc.) Additionally, the Researcher is responsible for participant and Study-Partner recruitment and management, processing and analyzing study data and preparing data and results for NIH and other progress reports and publications.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
  • Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
  • Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • Collects and analyzes basic to increasingly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • Assists with the development or develops and implements basic to increasingly complex research methodologies, procedures and criteria.
  • Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities and assists with or co-authors publications
  • Reviews and edits protocols to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency

Compensation:

$60,000 minimum; Salary is negotiable and will be based on education, experience and skills. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts and retirement benefits.

Required Qualifications:

Four or more years of research experience working as a member of an interdisciplinary collaborative autism research team and conducting neuropsychological assessments of older autistic youth and/or adults.

At least one year of experience in all of the following:


  • Consenting and performing standardized neuropsychological assessments, including dementia detection-related assessments, on middle-age- and/or older autistic adults.

  • Using and interacting with REDCap including data entry, data quality control, data retrieval and report creation.

  • Using the R statistical package for doing data checks and reviewing trends in recruitment and enrollment, and past experience using R for research data analysis.

  • Using exceptional written language skills to copyright research materials, consent forms, and presentation and progress report slides.

  • Writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for multi-site research for standardization across sites and quality control.

  • Providing training and supervision/mentorship to students and other research staff.

  • The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment. University sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Applicants for this position will be considered for the Researcher I and Researcher II titles. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.

  • A Criminal Background Check will be performed.

  • The successful applicant will be required to complete HIPAA training and receive certification upon employment and annually thereafter.

  • Reporting requirements must be completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to effort reporting and outside activities reporting.


Education:

A PhD in Psychology is required. Primary focus on Experimental Psychology is strongly preferred.
