Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. Position Summary
The Teaching Assistant (TA) supports the delivery of patient care laboratory sessions for second-year Doctor of Pharmacy students. This role involves assisting faculty in facilitating hands-on learning experiences, reinforcing clinical and communication skills, and ensuring students understand and apply core pharmacy concepts in simulated patient care scenarios.

Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Support:
* Assist faculty in setting up and conducting lab sessions focused on patient assessment, medication counseling, and clinical decision-making.
* Demonstrate proper techniques for physical assessment, medication administration, and patient communication.
* Provide guidance and feedback to students during lab activities.
Clinical Oversight:
* Monitor student performance and ensure adherence to professional standards and safety protocols.
* Support students in applying pharmacotherapy knowledge to simulated patient cases.
* Help students interpret medication orders and assess drug therapy appropriateness.
Assessment & Feedback:
* Observe and document student performance during lab sessions.
* Provide formative feedback to students on clinical reasoning, communication, and professionalism.
* Assist in grading lab assignments and practical exams as directed by faculty.
Coordination & Preparation:
* Prepare lab materials, supplies, and equipment prior to sessions.
* Ensure proper inventory and organization of lab resources.
* Collaborate with faculty and staff to improve lab workflows and student engagement.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in education, special education, instructional design, educational technology, educational media, or related discipline with coursework in curriculum development or learning theory; or a Bachelor's degree in the assigned discipline and two years of experience in teaching, educational testing, or instructional design and curriculum development; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Required Qualifications:
* Strong foundational knowledge of pharmacotherapy, patient assessment, and pharmacy practice.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students.
* Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in North Carolina.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior experience in clinical or academic pharmacy settings.
* Familiarity with simulation-based education and patient care labs.
* Experience mentoring or teaching pharmacy students.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
