Job Summary

The Student Services Specialist Sr. is responsible for a designated student cohort from specific populations that may experience academic, behavioral, or basic needs barriers to success within the Student Success & Retention Department. This position provides proactive support through individualized outreach, advisement, and connection to campus and community resources. Maintains accurate records to track student progress and outcomes. Duties include coordinating and outreach for student programs and service offerings and first-year academic advising. The role requires navigating the complexity of student needs while ensuring accurate documentation, effective communication across departments, and delivery of high-quality student services. This position demonstrates a commitment to student success in all aspects of work.

Essential Functions

30% - Provides proactive outreach and wrap-around support for an assigned student cohort with potential barriers to success, and follow-up to ensure timely connection to campus services, academic support, and community resources. Serves as a liaison to other campus departments to facilitate coordinated support.

30% - Proactively reviews and responds to Early Alert notifications related to behavior/academic performance, probation status, and basic needs concerns. Works collaboratively with campus partners to assess concerns, determine appropriate interventions.

30% - Provides first-year academic advising on an as needed basis, including program selection, placement measures, and navigating student systems for successful enrollment and readiness.

10% - Attend staff training and professional development opportunities. Assisting part-time employees, and performing other duties as assigned in support of departmental and college goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

1. Associate's degree or higher.

2. Two (2) or more years experience supporting student programs and services in a higher education setting.

3. Experience providing student advisement, with knowledge of educational plans, program pathways.

4. Experience working with at-risk student populations.

5. Proficiency with technology tools such as Tableau, Symplicity, Qualtrics, Cranium Cafe/ConexED, and Google Workspace etc.

6. Strong skills in data tracking, student progress reporting, and student information systems.

Special Working Conditions

May be required to work at multiple sites or locations.

May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor.

May be required to work evenings and weekends.
