The VMI technician is responsible for implementing and maintaining a Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) program across various customer locations. This role includes managing order placement, handling product deliveries, and reporting on daily customer operations to Airgas stakeholders. VMI technicians also educate customers on industry best practices and new product offerings. Additionally, the position involves making deliveries when a delivery driver is unavailable, always adhering to DOT and Airgas policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts and coordinates local VMI programs including delivery of product, restocking and resupply as necessary.

  • Provides area supply chain managers, account managers and branch managers with updates related to the customer VMI program.

  • Enters orders in SAP and researches products as necessary, and provides insight to various customers.

  • Identifies additional items that could be supplied and monitored through the VMI program.

  • Orders product to ensure proper inventory levels are met.

  • Monitors inventory levels at customer sites. Monitor customer usage and suggest adjustments to product levels to ensure maximum efficiency and product turn.

  • Maintains VMI System by cleaning, organizing and relabeling bins. Organizes production additions and deletions.

  • Performs first level repair and troubleshooting of VMI equipment.

  • Uploads, delivers, and downloads safely to customers of hardgoods items and cylinders containing compressed gases. Returns empty cylinders to Airgas location for refilling.

  • Maintains load manifests and all other vehicle documents, ensuring they are properly completed and balanced with truck counts and shipping documents before and after deliveries.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education
High school diploma or the equivalent, five years related experience and/or training or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Length and Type of Experience
Minimum of one to three years of experience in an industrial retail, inside sales, customer service and/or inventory control related position.
SAP or similar software system experience. Intermediate skills operating a computer in Google based environment is recommended.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's)
Proficiency with entering and extracting data into and from a computer. Proven ability to work effectively
under deadlines and with little supervision and to complete a high volume of paperwork accurately and on time.
Ability to clearly communicate by phone, email or in person with customers, sales staff, Branch Manager
and all the other branch personnel. Must be able to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.
Basic computer skills (i.e. Google Suite products) is necessary.
May be required to operate a forklift in the warehouse.
Ability to read and comprehend safety data sheets.
Must be able to operate in a drugfree workplace.

Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
Must be able to work occasional overtime to meet the repair schedules.
This position will have occasional day travel to Airgas locations and Customer sites while being exposed to different inside and outside work environments.
Must have reliable transportation with a good driving record.
May be exposed to noise or vibrations, hazards, potential explosives, burns electrical or other fumes, mist, dust, odors or gas. Will be around moving machinery and equipment on uneven ground with varying conditions and layouts.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to work outdoors in temperatures ranging from -10 to over 110 degrees.

Ability to perform very heavy work, routinely lift, push, pull, carry 30-50 pounds and occasionally lift 76 to greater than 100 pounds. May occasionally stoop, bend, couch, crawl, twist, kneel or squat up to 33% of the day.
