Mercyhealth, an award-winning fully integrated health care delivery organization based in Wisconsin and Illinois, is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our Plastic Surgery team in Janesville, WI.

Opportunity:

  • Collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary team including Emergency Medicine physicians, Trauma physicians, General Surgeons, and Hospitalists and have the full support of an excellent team of RNs and support staff
  • 6 FTE; Part-time benefits, hourly
  • Holiday and weekend coverage only to cover weekend NPs' time off, not a regular rotation of coverage
  • Hospital rounding with Trauma and General Surgeons, clinic visits

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient rounding and clinical care alongside Plastic Surgeon.
  • Evaluate and manage patients pre- and post-operatively.
  • Function as a first assistant to the primary surgeon to include deep and superficial closures, assistance with the positioning of surgical patients, application of appliances and other actions delegated by the surgeon and as credentialed through the Medical Staff privileging process.
  • Assist in performing simple clinic procedures, i.e. suturing, incision and drainage, removal of skin lesions and foreign bodies.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including health histories and physical exams.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide wound care, administer medications, and manage drains, sutures, and dressings.
  • Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, recovery, and post-discharge care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and progress.
  • Perform new patient consults for a variety of facial concerns to include Botox, fillers, laser and other cosmetic treatments.
  • Assessing patient goals and expectations for cosmetic procedures
  • Evaluate new clients seeking skin correction and procedures
  • Administer various aesthetic treatments (Botox and dermal fillers)
  • Prescribe pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapies
  • Prepare and participate in seminars and educational videos
  • Stay current with best practices, standards, and continuing education in plastic surgery and cosmetic care.

Qualifications:

  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based care.
  • Ability to pass the Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current WI PA license (or eligibility).
  • Current DEA registration.
  • BLS required, ACLS certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

Janesville is a city of about 66,000 people with 150,000 people in Rock County. Janesville has all the advantages and amenities of a smaller city while still having easy access to four larger cities (Madison, Milwaukee, Rockford, Chicago). The cost of living in Rock County is low and housing is affordable. The school system is very good with both public and private schools available. The Janesville park system is extensive and includes children's play areas, pools, gardens, golf and many other activities. Shopping includes two malls with most larger chain stores and many specialty stores. Janesville has many restaurants and there is excellent dining within 40 minutes in Madison and Lake Geneva.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists physician in surgical procedures. Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal. Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunization, suturing and wound care, and managing infection. Provides care for simple fractures, sprains, and strains to stabilize and restore musculoskelatal function. Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.

Education and Experience

Accredited schooling through a Physician Assistant Degree Program.

Certification and Licensure

Current Certified status through National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants(NCCPA). Obtain CME experience as required for re-certification by NCCPA. Hold valid state license and CME credits for license renewal. Other certification/licensure as required by contract.

Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently and under pressure. Good communication/interpretive skills. Excellent analytical skills. Works requires a high level of independent judgement. The position has substantial latitude for independent action.
Special Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear and must have near acuity with occasional use of color vision. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move patients and equipment. This is heavy work exerting 50 to 100 lbs of force occasionally or 25 to 50 lbs of force frequently.
