Job Description

3rd Shift - Plant Lead

PURPOSE:

In addition to performing normal duties in their respective job classifications, the Manufacturing Department Lead is responsible for coordinating daily department operations, supporting production schedules, and providing hands-on leadership to ensure product quality, on-time delivery, and adherence to safety and company standards. This role acts as the primary point of contact between production team members and management, fostering an environment of collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead, coach, and support department team members to achieve production goals and meet quality standards.
  • Monitor workflow, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Assist with training and development of employees, including onboarding of new hires and cross-training initiatives.
  • Support troubleshooting of production issues and escalate as needed to supervisors or engineering teams.
  • Ensure all team members adhere to safety guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and company policies.
  • Perform quality checks and verify work meets specifications and documentation requirements.
  • Provide feedback to management regarding performance, staffing needs, and process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of production output, downtime, and departmental performance metrics.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and participate in lean manufacturing or process optimization projects.
  • Serve as acting supervisor in the absence of the Operations Supervisor.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 35 pounds for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and safety requirements.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to the Department Supervisor

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical training preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and production flow.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and ERP systems preferred.
