About the Job

Term faculty will be expected to develop and teach introductory and/or upper division undergraduate courses and/or graduate-level courses in the Bands Program, hold office hours and advise students, engage in an active program of creative or scholarly work, and perform service and outreach appropriate for the rank of appointment. Primary teaching emphasis will be with "The Pride of Minnesota" Marching and "Gopher Groove" Athletic Bands (in collaboration with the Director of Athletic Bands) and the University Band (as primary instructor). Secondary teaching and instruction will be with supervising and mentoring Graduate Teaching Assistants in Marching, Athletic, and Campus Bands.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A Master of Music Degree in Conducting or Music Education
  • Successful experience in a college or university athletic band program
  • Substantial experience as a concert ensemble conductor and teacher
  • Demonstrated excellence in musicianship, teaching, leadership, supervision, and mentorship
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills

Preferred

  • A Doctor of Music Degree in Conducting, or progress toward a completed doctorate by date of appointment
  • Three or more years of successful teaching at the high school or collegiate/university level
  • Presentations or Research/Creativity work aiming toward regional and national conferences
  • Professional service commensurate with career stage

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $75,000 - $90,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience
