Job Responsibilities

Overview

We're looking for a SharePoint Intranet Redesign Specialist to lead the transformation of our classic SharePoint Online environment into a modern, efficient, and scalable platform. This is a hands-on technical role for someone who loves solving complex SharePoint challenges-streamlining permissions, optimizing site performance, and designing environments that are easy to maintain and even easier to use.

If you take pride in turning tangled legacy systems into organized, high-performing spaces that teams actually enjoy using, this role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the migration of classic SharePoint Online sites and subsites to modern SharePoint Online.

    • Current environment: ~50 subsites, 700K+ files, 900K+ custom permissions, and 800K GB of internal content.

    • Simplify legacy permissions and establish a clean, sustainable structure.

  • Design the technical architecture for the new SharePoint environment, including site hierarchy, hub configuration, permissions, and integration points.

  • Plan and execute full-scale content migration while maintaining data integrity and performance.

  • Report on migration progress and recommend post-migration optimization opportunities.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with liaison teams for permissions, content validation, and organizational alignment (no client-facing or stakeholder approval responsibilities).

Qualifications & Experience

Required Technical Expertise

  • 3-5+ years of SharePoint Online experience.

  • Proven ability to independently execute data/system migrations.

  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing modern SharePoint architectures and permissions.

  • Proficiency with migration tools such as ShareGate, SPMT, PnP PowerShell, and Migration Manager.

  • Familiarity with hub sites, modern site templates, Microsoft 365 Groups, Power Platform, and integrated workflows/forms.

Recommended Experience Level

  • 5+ years working with SharePoint (classic and modern).

  • 2-3 years specifically within the SharePoint Online / Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

  • Experience leading at least one full-cycle SharePoint modernization or migration project, including inventory, planning, migration, and post-migration optimization.

Strategic & Analytical Skills

  • Ability to conduct site assessments using tools like Modernization Scanner.

  • Develop and implement effective migration strategies (phased, lift-and-shift, hybrid).

  • Align technical decisions with governance frameworks and business objectives.

Soft Skills

  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

  • Proven experience working cross-functionally with IT, compliance, and business units.

  • Self-directed, adaptable, and able to hit the ground running in a flexible environment.

Workload & Flexibility

  • Approximately 20 hours per week, flexible depending on project phase and workload.

  • Contract duration: ~1 year (scope may evolve as the project progresses).

Why You'll Want This Role

This project offers autonomy, flexibility, and real technical depth. You'll lead a complex SharePoint Online modernization from design through migration-without client-facing demands or red tape. It's a chance to deliver measurable results on a flexible, part-time schedule.
