Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $73,920 - $95,495.40. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Join Our Team as a Mechanical Engineer!

S&C is the specialist in high-voltage switching, protection and control, providing products for the electric power industry since 1911. Overhead Lateral Automation (OLA) is responsible for S&C's overhead grid automation products, mainly TripSaver II, which is integral to our customer's Smart Grid systems. This position is for a team-oriented, entry-level mechanical engineer with interests in manufacturing and product development. This position reports to the Assistant Manager - Product Engineering - OLA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Presentation of significant findings, orally and in writing, to senior management and engineers throughout the company
  • Analyze mechanical issues and implement effective solutions to improve performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to enhance equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction through innovative engineering solutions.
  • Develop and refine mechanical systems and production equipment to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes and implement engineering solutions to reduce waste, increase throughput, and enhance product quality.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to troubleshoot equipment issues and develop preventive maintenance plans.
  • Lead and support capital projects, including equipment upgrades, installations, and facility expansions.
  • Investigate equipment failures and process deviations using structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram
  • Work with suppliers and contractors to source components, review technical proposals, and ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Partner with operations, quality, and automation teams to support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings through design changes, material substitutions, and process improvements

What you'll Need To Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 1-3 years of mechanical engineer experience
  • Experience modelling using 3D CAD Software
  • Demonstrated ability to use analysis tools such as Matlab, MathCad, ANSYS, etc
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Desire to work hands-on in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to operate successfully both independently or as part of a larger engineering team
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, tolerance analysis, the application of GD&T, FEAs, and FMEAs are a plus
