Job Summary

The Fleet Equipment Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to high-quality standards. Reporting to the Regional Fleet Equipment Manager, this position collaborates with transportation leadership to execute a fleet maintenance strategy aligned with broader operational and growth objectives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

* Schedule and coordinate regular inspections and maintenance to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

* Manage routine services including preventive maintenance (PMs), tire rotations, annual inspections, campaigns, recalls, and warranty opportunities.

* Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and increase fleet availability.

* Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.

* Collaborate with regional managers, drivers, and other stakeholders to address maintenance concerns and deliver timely solutions.

* Source and procure parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.

* Oversee external service providers and vendors, leveraging national accounts to ensure timely and satisfactory completion of work.

* Promote and enforce safety protocols, fostering a culture of safety within the fleet maintenance team.

* Provide regional support and coverage as needed, ensuring continuity of fleet operations.

* Lead or participate in special projects as assigned.

* Be available to assist with after-hours breakdowns as needed.

* Attend quarterly driver meetings to support communication and alignment.

* Maintain a consistent presence in the office to support operations and team collaboration.

Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalent (required); technical certifications or vocational training in vehicle repair (preferred)

* 5+ years of experience in maintenance operations

* Willingness to travel as needed

Desired Skills & Experience

* Proven experience in fleet maintenance, repair, or a related field

* Strong knowledge of vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical components

* Experience with OEM warranty recovery and national account programs

* Familiarity with preventive maintenance scheduling and execution

* Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

* Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and record-keeping capabilities

* Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration

* Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment

* Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and work outside regular hours when necessary

* Preferred: Knowledge of UFP's organizational structure, culture, and product lines
