A-C Equipment Services, a division of thyssenkrupp Polysius North America, Inc., is engaged in the design, manufacture, installation and service of rotary kilns. Our customer base includes cement manufacturers, paper mills and various other mineral and chemical processing companies located in all parts of the United States.


Your responsibilities

Position Overview:

The shop supervisor is responsible for managing a team of shop personnel fabricating cylindrical mill and kiln shells, machinery frames, planetary coolers, and other fabricated components. The supervisor oversees all operations in the manufacturing process, including shop quality control, and responsibility for a safe work environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety.
  • Manage a team of shop personnel. Shop processes include general assembly, welding, flame cutting, and steel plate rolling.
  • Teach, coach, and demonstrate work activities for team members.
  • Direct staff on priority of work to be performed.
  • Responsible for coordinating, assigning and final quality of all work.
  • Adhere to A-C Equipment shop manufacturing schedule. Meet production deadlines.
  • Create/Maintain standard work procedures.
  • Review special non-standard work procedures.
  • Maintain and adhere to standard shop specifications.
  • Ensure all duties are performed in a safe manner utilizing all required PPE, being constantly aware of others in the work area.
  • Interface effectively with coworkers in manufacturing and office environments.
  • Monitor and work with purchasing to order shop supplies including gases, stock steel plates and angles, weld consumables.
  • Schedule machine, man lift, and crane maintenance.
  • Schedule building maintenance (cleaning, electrical, plumbing, repairs, snow removal, dumpsters)
  • Generate requests for new equipment / machinery.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and welding symbols.
  • Inspect parts manufactured at A-C Equipment.
  • Schedule and Review UT, MPI, X-Ray test results.
  • Review and file inspection documents.
  • Assist vendors with manufacturing questions and issues.
  • Inspect incoming steel plate for defects (proper sizes). Review steel material certificates.

Your profile

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will have direct supervisory responsibilities of 5-10 shop employees.

Required Education & Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience (5 years minimum) in a manufacturing facility.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Working Knowledge of metal fabrication techniques, tools, and principals involved in cutting, flux core welding, and submerged arc welding.
  • Quality mindset.
  • Hands on and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings (Weld symbols and GD & T)
  • Experience with MS Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and willingness to identify, initiate and drive improvements.
  • Working knowledge of measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of non-destructive testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CWI or CWE considered a plus.
  • Welding knowledge.
  • Quality background.
  • Associate's, or Bachelor's Degree in a Mechanical, Quality, or Manufacturing field preferred. Experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Travel Demands:

This position will be based in an office that is located in Milwaukee, WI. Less than 10% travel will be required to visit supplier facilities for inspections. Most suppliers are located within driving distance from Milwaukee, WI.
